Nola Bound

Parting is such sweet sorrow, except that my hay fever's killing me and if I don't get near the coast soon, it's over for this writer.

Up all night and yesterday packing and writing...more of the latter than the former. Some of us ain't cut out for physical labor is all.

In other words: I ABHOR packing and will do almost anything to avoid it. That said, if any of you out there in cyberspace are interested in making a few bucks helping us load up our truck (don't worry, we've already packed 75% of our stuff), it'd really save my ass.

Trailer Park Trends Part 1

Makeup Round-Up

Like any good Southern girl, I LOVE my makeup! Here's a quick overview of my latest must have picks and what to ditch.

Liquid eye liner:

At my ripe old age I have finally learned how to apply liquid eyeliner without too much room for error these days. I've tried several different types and here's the DL on this shit:

BASIC BLACK: makes a great basic liquid eyeliner...does the job...goes on easy, easy to clean up smudges, longwear, etc. For more info, go to www.marykay.com

WATERPROOF: I tried MAKE-UP FOREVER'S waterproof formula and was extremely happy with the results, until (after purchasing less than a month ago) the brush got fucked up and now I get stray black lines across my eyelids if I'm not careful when I use it.

DIXIE'S DOPE: So my girl, Dixie has an eye for fashion with a hand for all things hip and she's been kind enough to share some of her kickass know how with all of us. Here she goes: ALMAY liquid eye liner--comes in a variety of colors, reasonably priced, and has a SPONGE tip applicator that forms to the proper curvature of one's eye after a few applications. LOVE IT!

Mascara: Durability v. Shimmerability

Don't know if any of you ladies or gents has used any NARS eyeshadow lately, but if you have, let me know if you've have the same problem I've had with my NARS eyeshadow.

My friend Laura turned me on to a particular NARS eyeshadow color, STRADA, which is a purple with highlighting flecks of gold. It's gorgeous, but the PROBLEM is it FALLS APART! I've owned it less than a year and it's already breaking into pieces to the point that I can't safely carry it in my makeup bag anymore. BOO!!

SIDE B

So, the flip side of the coin is I have a beautiful ESTEE LAUDER eyeshadow circa 1994 that I still use daily. Talk about QUALITY and DURABILITY! Guess that's what comes with being the flag ship of one of America's largest cosmetic empires.

Mascara

Right now, I'm feeling COLOR~! In a BIG WAY! It's HOTT, HOT, down South and it's got me feeling perky:) To celebrate this sometime summertime sensation, I turned on some Miami Sound Machine and grabbed my earplugs. I'd rather hum the Strokes any day.

RAMMER JAMMER ROYAL: XOXOXOXOXO!!!!!

Ok, y'all, Southern girls know that, in a pinch, Maybelline Great Lash Mascara outperforms pricier alternatives. For less than $5, Great Lash will thicken, lengthen, and plump with the best of 'em.

What's even more fun? MAYBELLINE GREAT LASH MASCARA IN ROYAL BLUE! In fact, I'm wearing it right now.

Blush

LOVE LOVE LOVE WET N' WILD's Silk Finish in godknowswhatcover. Lasts forever and then some. Cheap and chic.

Eyelash curlers (Dixie says, "They are little torture devices." )

I always use one, though:)

Coming SOON:

nail polish no no's
foundation fixes
skin care CRITICAL
TEASING TIPS from DIXIE

LAST LOOKS:

WHAT'S IN?

BIG SOUTHERN HAIR

Thanks to Bump Its, I can achieve the same kind of height my mama did back in the 70s with half the work. Check 'em out, for real. Spray with Aqua Net or Suave Max Hold #8.

See y'all soon!!!

Less important than I thought

You're not so important after all
It's been weeks since we last talked

While it hurt me deep inside
The pain intense, would not subside
Loses strength each passing day
But it never goes away

I am older today
And I cannot be repaid
For the years that I wasted with you

So I'll hold my head high
We have said our goodbyes
I'm no longer singing the blues

As the weeks pass by
I will no longer cry
And you'll find you are thinking of me

You will ask yourself why
And you'll wonder if I
Have erased you from all of my dreams

Of what you inquire
I answer that I
Have escaped the reach of your snare

You are no longer there
Not even a care
Thank God for giving me strength

There is someone out there
Who will work to repair
My heart; turn the bitter to sweet

One day if we meet
On a far away street
And you ask me how my life has been

I'll tell you the truth
I no longer miss you
And I'm glad that we ended up "friends"
